Jewel Amelia Smith , as we all knew as (Chinco, Mommy, Aunty Amelia, Big Aunty, Grandma and Teete Melia), was born unto the union of Alzetta Potter-Smith King and Joseph S. Smith in the city of Edina, Grand Bassa County, Liberia. Chinco spent her early years in Edina with her parents and nine siblings of which her parents and seven of her siblings predeceased her. She attended school in Edina but later moved to Totota, Bong County, Liberia to live with her oldest sister. She later moved to Belefanai, upper Bong County, Liberia.
While residing in Belefanai, she started her farming and transportation businesses and became a very successful entrepreneur. She later moved to Monrovia, Liberia to expand her business. As a business woman, she travelled the world and became well-known for her hard work and dedication.
Chinco, as she was affectionately called loved her family but most of all she loved the Lord. She was dedicated and actively devoted to serving her church until her last days. She was a lay reader for many years at the Trinity Cathedral and the Good Shepard Episcopal Churches in Liberia; and continued that service at the Episcopal Church in Detroit, Michigan when she migrated to the United States several years ago. Among other things, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Household of Ruth.
She leaves to mourn her only living sister, Catherine King-Spiller, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
During this time of bereavement, we will have with us many good memories of you Chinco, Mommy, Aunty Amelia, Big Aunty, Grandma and Teete Melia. We will find peace in knowing that God blessed each of us by having you in our lives. We will miss you dearly. Rest in peace until we meet again.
