Lila’s early years were spent growing up on a farm in Capay Valley, California. She was the second of nine children and is survived by her three brothers, Sterling, Dale and John Duncan. Lila was hard working, adventurous, and valued education. Her parents provided for her to attend business school in Sacramento and during this time she met her husband Ken. During their marriage, they travelled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Mexico.
Lila and Ken purchased a home in Sacramento and raised their three children there. Both made many sacrifices for their children, especially for their education and were proud when all three graduated from college.
Lila loved sports and was highly skilled in bowling and golf. Other interests included enjoying time with family and friends, camping, hiking, fishing, water aerobics, gardening (especially growing tomatoes), and genealogy. She was proud of her Scottish-Native American heritage and that she was a fourth generation Californian. Lila showed abundant hospitality throughout her life, opening her home to all. She invited others to stay with them when needed and hosted large family gatherings. She was a good listener and showed immense support toward others. Always courageous, some of her favorite adventures included helicopter and hot air balloon rides, flying in a vintage WW2 airplane, and whitewater rafting in Alaska.
She truly felt blessed and lived a wonderful 90 years with love, zest and happiness. She will be much missed and much remembered.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 615 Vine Ave., Roseville, on May 20th at 2:00 p.m. Reception following at the church.
