Loretta White, RN, passed away at age 89 in Citrus Heights, CA during the early hours of Jan 20, 2021. Loretta was the youngest of ten children born to a family of modest means in eastern Texas. That she grew up in a large rural family during the Great Depression and the Second World War might help explain the determination she later showed to advance herself through education. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Prairie View A&M, completing the degree program in nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse. After additional training in ER and surgical nursing at Baylor University, she chose Ob/Gyn as a specialty.
Loretta, having one son, met and married Lincoln White, a USAF lieutenant. They eventually had two more sons together. Working as a nurse while starting graduate studies, she moved her family to Northern California for her husband's military assignment. Loretta and her family then moved to Southern California, then again to Northern CA, then CO, ND, NM, NE, FL and finally back again to Northern CA near Sacramento.
During that time Loretta had become Associate Professor of Nursing at two university nursing programs, U North Dakota and Creighton U, each of which ended when she had to move. After 19 years of marriage, Loretta and Lincoln divorced, and Loretta continued to live and work in the Sacramento area, first as a nurse supervisor at a local rehabilitation clinic, then as occupational health nurse for the US Postal Service at the main Sacramento center.
Loretta is survived by her sons Larry, Richard and Victor, her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
Services will be private due to COVID.
