Born in New York City on February 25, 1949, Nickie was the daughter of Irma Rodríguez of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and Grover K. Hendricks of Parkersburg, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother in 1997 and her father in 2001.
Nickie was a natural-born trailblazer. By the age of 20, she had gained national recognition as a top saleswoman for Periodical Publishers. By 25, she owned her own business and consistently set record-breaking sales figures across the country, working with both residential and commercial clients. She was, without question, a pioneer in her industry.
Generosity was a defining trait of Nickie’s character. She opened her heart, home, and resources to others without hesitation. Over the years, she offered care and support to many family members, including her grandmother Leota, her aunt Milta, and her cousins Elaine and Joan—providing them not just shelter, but a true sense of belonging. She remained deeply connected to her loved ones and gave freely of whatever she had.
Nickie was also an avid traveler who explored Europe, Mexico, and Asia. Later in life, she developed a deep love for the Sacramento River Delta. She owned several boats over the years and was an active member of a local yacht club on the San Joaquin River. The Delta became her refuge—a place of peace and joy where she spent countless days recharging from the demands of her business. Family trips on the Delta brought her immense happiness.
She is survived by her devoted son, Brian, and her loving brother, Roger. Nickie will be remembered for her warmth, strength, generosity, and indomitable spirit.
A memorial service to celebrate Nickie’s life will be held on November 4, 2025 at the 24th Street Bingo Hall located 2350 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA. A formal invitation to attend the Celebration of Life will be sent in the coming days.
