We knew Harold through McDonalds on Gratiot.  He would come, most days, and have breakfast. He spoke often about his military service. His love for his family and his beloved West Virginia.  He was one of the most kind and considerate people we ever met.  Shortly before his passing he hurried out of Mcdonalds to.assist a young lady in a stalled vehicle.  He was going to push her car, by hand. Into a parking lot.  He was remarkable spry, sharp and a jokester.  We did even know his last name but a whole lot of people who met at McDonalds are missing him and praying for his soul.  You all were lucky to have him in your family.

Many memories of a man that is as rare as they come. He taught us so much ~ Family is number one, faithfulness, respect & good southern fundamental principles.  His mountains in West Virginia where he grew up & lived, a place that we can only imagine what Heaven could be. As he made his last trip recently he said good-bye to a place he loved, some people he knew he would never see again & no doubt a prayer that he would join the many the past before him soon. I will cherish the recent reminders from him as we discussed the Lord & many bible verses. He was ready to go home & was at peace with the lord.  His stories of War World 11 were rarely discussed until his Grandson came home from Afghanistan.  They had a bond of the reality of war. He finally began to share his experiences & stories of the war & they were beyond what any of us could even begin to imagine. His work ethic was impeccable, his mathematics & memory were as well. He loved to play dice & corn hole. He loved to walk deep into the mountains & take long drives. He was the secret keeper for all and simply smart as the day is long. Many called him (H), but he wore several hats ~ Husband, Dad, H, Bonehead, Uncle, Grandpa, Great Grandpa & a Servant to the Lord. 



My deepest sympathy to the Goddard family during this difficult time. May Jehovah God comfort and surround you with peace and hope. Revelation 21:4. God's son Jesus, also promised at John 5:28,29 that one day soon, dying will be a thing of the past, and then you will see "John" again. Until that time, continue to cherish all of those wonderful memories that you have shared together.
