Barbara Mae Williams Thomas

Barbara Mae Williams Thomas, age 94, of Roswell, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 3, 2014 at Roswell Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Roswell Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas was born October 28, 1919, to Audley O. and Barbara Jepson Williams in Niagara Falls, Canada. She graduated from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada in 1941 and married Donald L. Thomas in 1942 while he was serving as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his death in December of 2005.

During Barbara’s long, active life, she was involved with many church, civic, educational, and charitable activities and organizations. She served the Chicago Maternity Center, Barrington, Illinois Chapter; was a founding member of Barrington, Illinois Presbyterian Church. Barbara was a board member of Kingsborough College, Brooklyn, NY; served Friends of the Library, Garden City, NY; and was a life long member of P.E.O, including chapters in Barrington, IL, Garden City, NY, and most recently , Atlanta, GA Chapter B. She was a member of Rowell Presbyterian Church. Barbara was a well known T.V. and radio personality in the 1970s and 1980s, when she joined her husband in commercials for Anchor Savings Bank where Don Thomas served as Chairman and CEO.

Barbara was an avid golfer and was active with the ladies groups at Cherokee Country Club. She was well loved by her family and is survived by sons: Donald L. Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Gayle; and Rhys Evans Thomas and his wife, Christine, four grandchildren: Brooke Fleming, Don Thomas III, Sarah Blacha, and Barbara Schubert and six great grandchildren. Also, one brother and one sister.
