Gus Harter, my brother in law, was always a kind and joyful man to me. My grandmother and mother adored him. Gus and my sister Betty Jo, are missed  blessing s to his brother Fritz and their children.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harter family. Brother Harter’s preaching and ministry changed many lives, including my family, and I feel very blessed to have been baptized by him. I still rejoice in the way he preached Salvation by Grace, election, predestination- it will never be forgotten. Blessed to have known him, and his family. He will be greatly missed.

Elder Gus Harter was one of the ablest preachers among the Primitive Baptists in my 64 years among them. He overflowed with love and zeal for Christ and His people. He was a loyal friend and humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for our many years of fellowship in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Elder Gus Harter, and I give thanks to the Lord for his fellowship in the gospel for over 62 years. He was a blessing and inspiration to all those whose lives he touched. He preached the gospel of sovereign Grace with zeal and love, and was blessed of the Lord to convert many to the truth of election, that they may also obtain the salvation that was in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. His labor was not in vain in the Lord.  He and his wife, Betty Jo, were baptized by Elder Bradley into the fellowship of Lexington PB Church in the early 60s and ordained to the full work of the gospel ministry .  He was led to go back to his home state in Florida where he served a number of churches and converted many to the truth of grace. He then was called to Bethany P. B. Church where he served until he felt the burden to go to the Philippines.  Churches were established and fellowships started. Betty Jo helped start an orphanage ministry called “Beauty For Ashes,” and abandoned babies and orphans were cared for and given hope and much needed love and care, and also schooling in secular and Biblical education.  After 7 years, he returned back to the U.S. and ended his pastoral ministry at Ebenezer P. B. Church near Atlanta. “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion forever and forever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:10-11

Elder Harter was my mentor, my friend and my hero. I know when I get to Glory and I ask Elder Harter how heaven is he'll say, "Just Right!" I loved him and his family. May God bless them at this time.

Guy and I are praying that the Lord will grant the family peace and comfort in this difficult time!

Brother Harter baptized me at age eleven. I'm thankful for his ministry, for the fond memories of that time, and for getting to know all of your family, most especially Tammy and Becky since we were the same age. May God comfort and heal your hearts is my prayer.

I met Gus about 20 years ago and developed a friendship with him.  I have been praying for him the past several years and regret that I had not tried to correspond with him in the last few years.  I know God worked in his life and thankful God never gave up on him.  I had a son who God graciously brought back to Him through sickness which led to his death but God was faithful and his last years were precious to us as I know Gus’s last years are to you.  We will be praying for your family.

Brother Gus was a faithful servant of our Lord, and we are grateful to have known him. He loved his family well and we enjoyed watching him interact with his daughters whom he cherished. We are grateful for his friendship and his mentorship in the early days of Bob’s ministry. He taught Bob the skill of time management, which has proved to be a great resource. We are grateful that he reestablished contact with Bob recently. We will be praying for you in the many days ahead as you miss your daddy and we are grateful for the resurrection power of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that we will all be together one day.

My deepest sympathy extends to all Brother Gus’s family.  Joe and I first met him and Betty Jo in the 1960’s when they still lived in Florida. There we witnessed the baptisms of two of their daughters.  We enjoyed multiple meetings together through the years, especially at Bethany.  Brother Gus was a true friend to Joe.  May God bless and comfort all who mourn.

With deepest condolences and prayers for Elder Harter’s family.   I remember a very true statement Gus made :  “ A group seldom rises above it's leadership, therefore be a strong and Godly leader”.      I only have fond memories of Elder Harter and his pastoral care of Bethany  Primitive Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, GA.   May the Lord comfort and give peace to all who knew him.
