It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Burton “Larry” Hayslip, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed member of the community. Larry peacefully was welcomed by his heavenly father on Tuesday March 19th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion that will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Larry was born August 8, 1940, in Sarasota Florida, to his mother Marjorie and father Burton. Larry's upbringing gave him an appreciation for the serene waters that surrounded his hometown. He found relaxation and joy in the art of fishing, spending countless hours casting lines and relishing the tranquility of the Gulf. Until this last year, Larry continued his bi-annual fishing trip with his friends who have been going together for the last 30 or so years.
Larry attended Sarasota High School before attending college at Florida State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He was a hard-working selfless man, who took tremendous pride in his work ethic. He was a Navy Veteran, working in air traffic control, with one of his favorite memories of landing the Blue Angels one day on base. He then started his career with The Southern Company, working in computer operations until 1995 when he resumed his career with Atlanta Gas Light until he retired in 2003.
Guided by his faith, Larry's life was a testament to the values of kindness, integrity, and devotion. As a devout Christian, he lived his life in accordance with the teachings of love and compassion, trying to serve as an example to his children. He and his wife have attended Roswell United Methodist Church faithfully since 1973, and he often volunteered his time helping others with Sunday School or serving on the Kindergarten Board.
Above all, Larry cherished his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. Affectionately known by his granddaughters as “Gaga”, his love for his family was boundless. He found immense joy in spending time with his beloved wife, Pat, his son Ryan, daughter-in-law April, and his granddaughters Samantha and Sydney. Whether it was sharing stories around the dinner table or embarking on fishing adventures, Larry treasured every moment spent with his loved ones.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Pat, son Ryan (April) Hayslip, granddaughters Samantha and Sydney, and sister Carol McCollister. Larry is now reunited with his daughter Kristi as well as his mother and father, beloved family members who preceded him in death.
While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Larry has found eternal peace in the loving embrace of his heavenly father. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Sunrise Chapel in Arlington Memorial Park on March 28th, 2024, at 2PM, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society in Larry's name.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Larry's spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were touched by his love, kindness and grace.
