

Cynthia Lou Martz, a long-time Roswell resident and former model, died Monday, September 19, 2016, after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 67. Cindy was born December 10, 1948, to Theodore and Bernice Welgoss in Yokohama, Japan, where her father was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Although Cindy and her family moved frequently during her father’s Air Force career, she called Panama City, Florida, home for many years. She was a 1967 graduate of Bay County (Florida) High School, where she was a candidate for Homecoming Queen and Most Photogenic. She later attended Pensacola Junior College and Loyola University in New Orleans. After college she worked in advertising sales at a series of newspapers in Florida including the Panama City News Herald, the Fort Pierce News Tribune, Cocoa TODAY and the Clearwater Sun, where she won numerous awards for design and copywriting. In 1979 after the birth of her twin sons, Christopher and Colin, she turned her attention to being a full-time mother and homemaker. In recent years she served as a volunteer usher at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Theodora Brickner of Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She is survived by sons Christopher Lowell Martz of Marietta and Colin Cameron Martz of Roswell, daughter Veronica Christine Martz of Alpharetta, granddaughter Eleanor Victoria Montealegre of Alpharetta and son-in-law Victor Montealegre of Alpharetta. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia, 30073. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Cindy’s name to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Office of Gift Records, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road N.E., Suite 1400, Atlanta, Georgia, 30322.
