My deepest condolences to your family and friends. 
You were a phenomenal instructor at Gupton Jones. I actually enjoyed your classes, we would laugh some but most of all you made sure we learned everything that was needed.

Mr. Flahive,
   You were an inspiring teacher who taught me so much about funerals and you made my college years the best. You taught me everything I needed to know. I am truly thankful and happy that I was able to become your student.

I am a better funeral director because I knew and was taught by Mr. Flahive. One day he called me to his office and he told me that I would go far in the funeral industry and to make him proud, he followed by saying “I expect big things from you Troy.”  Little did I know he would be departing Gupton-Jones shortly after our conversation. He was the instructor over student council so I worked closely with him during my time on the council. He will be deeply missed. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mr. Flahive was an awesome Funeral Service Instructor. I will always be grateful for his required Funeral Service Project.  

The project gave us a better appreciation  for Funeral Service and the servants that we desired to become.  

His commitment lives on through so many of his students.

I, Rossneil Gibson just would like to extend my condolences to the entire family at this time. It was back in 2010 when I meet Mr. Flashover at Gupton-Jones CFS as I began my studies there. Mr. Flahive was an excellent professor, and more so a truly awesome man of character. He looked to offer advice on any matter a study would have asked. On behalf of myself and all the students from the Bahamas (8 of us at that time) we extend our sincere condolences, may he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Dearest cousin Dale,
I never had the pleasure of meeting your beloved Dennis. 
Reading all the beautiful messages of love and gratitude from friends and students gave me a beautiful glimpse into his life and all his accomplishments and how he touched so many lives, especially his students.
I cannot begin to imagine the loss you must feel. 
I know you will always keep him close in your heart and his wonderful spirit will always be with you.

This man was everything a good human should be, he literally changed lives by teaching-and listening to all of us. He encouraged and advised with thoughtful kindness, and gave doses of reality where they were needed without ever being cruel. I will miss him as both a friend and a teacher , he has left a hole in a lot of hearts with his passing.

Mr. Flahive was pivotal in building my confidence when I was in school. I remember when I first met him, he heard my accent and immediately asked where I was from. When I said Poughkeepsie, he only referred to me as that until I left school. I always loved hanging out after class and talking about life and nothing at all. He was a bright spot in my education and I will miss him dearly.

One of the best instructors I’ve ever had and even better person. Such a nice guy. RIP

I'll forever count myself privileged to sit under Dennis Flahive's instruction at Gupton-Jones College. He always expected the best from his pupils and gave us the needed material to exceed. "Do you hear me winking at you?" and "You might see that again!" were common statements that I think we all remember. He believed in me personally and he believed in our sacred profession and the power of a "good" funeral. There's not a time that I see a Fiat that I don't think of him. Flahive, I trust you and Kay Campbell are catching up at one heck of a cocktail party. Thank you for everything! "We don't have cookie cutter funerals, folks!"

I was so sad to hear of Dennis’ passing. He was a wonderful & caring person, a great instructor, & enjoyable to spend time with. I send my deepest sympathies to Dale & to all who loved him.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Mr. Flahive's passing. As a former student, I was profoundly impacted by his dedication, wisdom, and kindness. Condolences to the Flahive family. Mr. Flahive was one of the kindest instructors at Gupton-Jones. Things that he taught us, we use in our careers today. One thing that he told us was once we became licensed, to always keep them current and you will never have a hungry day. Rest In Peace, Mr. Flahive.

Mr. Flahive was truly an educator in the field of funeral service. There’s no way I would have completed school without his guidance along with the other great instructors at GJC during my time.
