

Ethelee “Lee” Priest Erkes passed away on Sunday, February 1st, in Gainesville GA. Lee was born to Waldo and Ethel Priest in Ft. McCoy, Florida on January 9, 1931. She attended the Georgia State College for Women and received her degree in Education from the University of Florida in 1952. Lee taught school in her hometown until she married her late husband, George Erkes, an Air Force pilot, in 1953.
Lee and George lived in 11 states during his flying career. Throughout these many moves she raised her five children. Lee was a wonderful, loving mother and she was very proud that all of her children graduated from college. She loved to entertain and having her family visit. Lee was a fabulous cook, seamstress and crafter which led to her involvement in numerous service clubs and volunteer organizations. Lee was a sweet, kind person who easily made good friends wherever they lived.
Lee was predeceased by her parents, sister Janet Winter, and her husband George. She is survived by her four sons: Rodney (Carol) Erkes, Richard (Terry) Erkes, Edward (Jane) Erkes, Greg (Jan) Erkes, and her daughter Lisa (Mark) Techo. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Stuart (Olivia) Erkes, Caroline (Jason) Burkett, Kevin Erkes, Kyle Erkes, Travis (Hannah) Techo, Justin Techo, and Jessica (Dan) Marinko. Six great grandchildren: Wyatt, Sarah, and Callie Techo, Elliott and Evan Erkes, Hailey Burkett, and baby girl Marinko due in June.
A simple family service is planned. She will be joining George at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
