As a child, Eugene enjoyed spending many summers in Arkansas visiting his grandparents alongside his cousins. Eugene went to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School for many years and graduated from Marshall High School. He dedicated his life to God as a young child, and remained a very big fan up until his death.
Eugene was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Babbie Berry on June 26, 1984. In this union came a son and the last piece of the puzzle, his daughter.
Eugene was a very loveable, understanding, and versatile individual. With a warm smile that can light up the darkest days, unforgettable laugh and Old School mindset Eugene was a one of kind individual. Eugene loved to read anything from comic books to war stories, hanging out with family and friends, watching a good game, and bowling.
Throughout his life, Eugene achieved many accomplishments including countless awards for his service to United States Army with an honorable discharge after his tours in Vietnam, his teamwork and problem-solving skills from AT&T, where he retired after 30 years in 2003 and Honda Mall of GA. Eugene was a dedicated worker, but his biggest achievements were marrying Babbie and becoming a father of two beautiful children. Eugene was a social butterfly, but did not play about his wife, children and family. We never had to question if he loved or cared for us because he made it so obvious. He provided for his family and made sure his children had the guidance we needed. Eugene was a father, an incredible one at that. Eugene was small in height but impactful and touched the lives of countless individuals through his kindness, laughter, wisdom, love, and loyalty.
Eugene was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, the late Babbie Stigger, of 39 years. He is survived by two children his daughter Tanisha Stigger of Alpharetta, GA, his son Verdell Chambers of Alpharetta, GA, and nephew turned son Korvel Berry (Joyce) of Murfreesboro, TN. His brother Ronald Stigger (Cheryl) of Vandalia, MI. His half brothers Wardell Sherman, Carl Barnes Jr, Michael Barnes, Gregory Sherman Sr. are all in Chicago. James Patrick, Jerome Maberry, Dennis Barnes (Beverly) proceed him in death and, nephew Justin Stigger (Pamela) of Kokomo, IN. His only niece Cherice Stigger of Kokomo, IN. A host of countless cousins, grandnieces' and great friends.
Eugene will be deeply missed and his transition leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will forever be cherished.
