

George S. Deckon of Alpharetta, GA passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022. The son of Stephen and Goldie Horvath Deckon, he was born in 1943 and raised in Akron, OH. Proud to be 100% Hungarian, he graduated from Kenmore High School in 1961. On a baseball scholarship, he attended Kent State University for two years. As a young boy, George played football, basketball, and baseball. When he was 12 years old, he played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. He played organized baseball and/or softball until the age of 62. As a young man in Akron, George was an expert water skier and belonged to a ski club that participated in shows and tournaments in many surrounding states.
In 1965, he was drafted into the Army where he served in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment “Blackhorse”, acting as a gunner on a 155 self-propelled Howitzer in Vietnam. Upon his discharge in 1967, he returned to Akron for a couple of years and then relocated to Atlanta, GA.
In 1973, he married the former Linda Fries who was originally from Minnesota. He worked in the graphic arts industry selling all types of printing, printing chemicals, and plates. His last employer was with Dupont when he retired at age 62. In his spare time, George enjoyed refinishing ski boats and classic cars, especially TR6’s. He enjoyed golf, racket ball, and tennis. He assisted in coaching his son’s football and baseball teams and was announcer for Milton High School football games.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Linda; son, Nick (Elisabeth); grandchildren Jack (10), Brooks (7), and George (4) of Roswell, GA; siblings Betty Pussehl and Stephanie Mellinger of Akron, OH along with many nieces and nephews.
