It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Glenn Francis Hughes, who peacefully departed this life on February 25, 2025, at the age of 92. Glenn was born on February 21, 1933, in Bellair Township, Iowa, to Dwight Hughes and Linnie Iowa Banks Hughes.
Glenn proudly served his country for 29 years as a member of the United States Air Force, where he traveled the world, serving in locations such as Iceland, Turkey, Japan, Thailand, and Santo Domingo, among others. His military service was marked by dedication, pride, and honor, and his impact on those he served with will not be forgotten.
In 1961, Glenn married Mrs. Margaret Presslinger, and together they had two children. Glenn and Margaret were married for 28 years, and even after their divorce, they remained lifelong friends. Glenn was a devoted father to his son, Glenn Hughes Jr., and daughter, Ann Margarete Hughes, and he was a loving and cherished figure in their lives.
Beyond his family, Glenn enjoyed hobbies such as watching the Atlanta Braves, NASCAR Racing, fishing and playing softball (Mountain-ball). He was also deeply committed to his community. He volunteered his time as a Little League Baseball coach and served on fundraisers for numerous charitable organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and ABATE, where he actively supported causes that mattered to him. His spirit of service, generosity, and compassion extended far beyond his years of military service, and he touched the lives of many.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents and all four of his siblings, Harold Dwight Hughes, Raymond Franklin Hughes, Wayne Edward Hughes, Marjorie Maxine Hughes. He is survived by his son, Glenn Hughes Jr. (Gail Holdcraft), his daughter, Ann Margarete Hughes (Jim Pollock), and his ex-wife and friend, Margaret Gourdin. His legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Roswell Funeral Home, located at 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076. A committal service with full military honors will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery.
