

Gloria Joan Miles, age 85, passed away at Northside Hospital peacefully with her family surrounding her on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Gloria was born on February 20, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia to Vivian White and Guy Hughes. Having moved to New York from Atlanta as a teenager, she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1951.
Gloria is survived by her three children: Catherine (and Steven) Bakinow, Jack (and Peggy) Lloyd, and Amy Barbieri; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Guerin (and Jason) Skudlarek, Amanda Bakinow Leeds, Melissa Guerin (and David) Maxwell, Jason (and Melanie) Lloyd, Shane (and Tinika) Lloyd, Valerie Lloyd (and Jason) Christian, Ansley Barbieri, Mia Barbieri and sixteen great grandchildren.
Having made her career in sales in the electronic cable and connector industry, Gloria retired from Accutech in 1998. Her great passion and second profession was as a jazz singer. Gloria sang in her earlier years with such Big Bands as Tommy Dorsey and The Glenn Miller Orchestras. Most notably singing with The Don Miolla Orchestra, where countless scores of Big Band enthusiasts danced in Atlanta at The Waverly Hotel most weekends. They were also featured on the 680 AM radio every Friday night for over a decade.
Gloria had a larger than life personality that would light up a room. She had such a love for her family and friends …. but the greatest love of her life was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a Christian, Gloria had the assurance of eternal life with Him in Heaven, where she now resides.
There will be a service followed by a reception on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 1 pm at Johns Creek Baptist Church; 6910 McGinnis Ferry Road, Johns Creek, Georgia 30005.
