

Horace Stone passed away on May 31, 2017 in Decatur, GA. He was born in Barrow County, GA on November 20, 1923. Throughout his adolescence, he helped his father manage the farm, but upon graduation from Winder High School, he moved to Clarksville, GA where he attended Habersham College to study radio repair and operation. In 1942, he joined the Army Reserves and began studies to become an Officer for the US Army Signal Corps. He served with the Signal Service Battalion in the Pacific Theater during World War ll from April 1943 to January 1946. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Atlanta and found a job working with Western Electric and also met Joyce Viola Oxner, his wife of 65 years when she passed. During his time with Western Electric, he was promoted and transferred to Arlington, VA and Cockeysville, MD before his final transfer back to the Atlanta area to retire. He was an active member of the Freemason Society for many years. After he retired, he and Joyce traveled throughout the United States and visited most, if not all, 50 states. His hobbies included bowling, golf, bridge, pinocle, and even dancing - both ballroom and square. He was active in his church and community and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by daughter Wanda Kruse, her husband Jim, and their children Robert and Stephanie and her husband Brian. Also, his son Jack and his wife Elissa, and their children Jackson and Natalie and her husband Bryan.
Visitation will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on June 4, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Graveside service will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery at 12:45 pm. A memorial funeral service will be held June 4, 2017 at Northbrook United Methodist Church at 2:00.
