Huguette Lorient

Huguette Francoise Menard was born May 11, 1936 on the island of Haiti. She grew up in the town of Dondon. Her parents were Casseus Menard and Camina Lanoix Menard (preceded in death). She was the youngest of ten children. Her sisters were: Reza (PD), Elide (PD), Julia (PD), Emide (PD), Renee, and Yolande (PD). Her brothers were Ezdras (PD), Diocles (PD) and a brother who died at birth (PD). Her parents were devout Christians who taught them the importance of believing in and serving God, as well as faith, unity and love for people.

Growing up in Haiti, Huguette had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She would sing solos in church and in the choir. Her father, Casseus Menard, was a music director at their church.

Huguette met Jacques Lorient and they married in 1963. They then emigrated to the United States and lived in Brooklyn, NY. She worked in City Center for years as a theater concierge and manager. Their children are Frantz, Chantal, Guy, Judith, and Nancy. Huguette and her family was a member of French speaking Baptist church in Brooklyn, NY (Pastor Jean Baptiste Thomas). They later moved to Georgia in 2004.

She loved gardening, flowers, traveling/vacationing, cooking for people, her family, friends, gatherings - especially hosting her annual festive Christmas party.

Huguette known as “Mama Guette” knew no strangers. She loved everyone. She was very wise, had a beautiful soul, and always a smile on her face. Her kindness was felt and resonated with all who came in contact with her. She loved and put God first in all she did.

Huguette and her husband, Jacques Lorient, raised their children to love and serve God, fear the Lord, respect your parents/authority, and live according to God’s word. Prayer was monumental in their household.

Huguette and Jacques Lorient have ten grandchildren. They are Angelina, Weston, Darian, Jaydon, Donovan, Cameron, Kayla, Justin, Nicholas, and Kimberly. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, sister, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
