James Gregory (Greg) Jones, 55, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025. He was born, along with his twin brother, on March 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California. They were adopted as infants by the Jones family and lived in several cities throughout the U.S., including Lexington, KY, Naperville, IL, San Diego, CA, and Marietta, GA, where he attended Walton High School. A talented athlete, Greg excelled in tennis, football, and basketball, and maintained a lifelong passion for sports, particularly supporting the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Braves and Falcons, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
In his early adulthood, Greg gave his life to Jesus Christ and served as a youth pastor at a Baptist church in Spring City, TN, before returning to Georgia to work at Lowe’s Home Improvement as an appliance specialist. Over his 20-year career with the company, he worked at three locations—Gainesville, Suwanee, and Alpharetta. He dedicated the last six years selling luxury appliances and working as a commercial project manager with SR Appliance in Brookhaven, GA. Greg was known for sharing his faith with coworkers and customers alike, offering to pray with them and lending a hand whenever needed.
Greg was also known for his love of food! He had a deep appreciation for culinary arts, having worked in upscale restaurants in the Atlanta area. He enjoyed hosting gatherings for friends and family, showcasing his skills with backyard barbecues and holiday meals. He was also a talented baker and took pride in grinding his own wheat and using high-quality ingredients, often sharing his bread and muffins with friends and colleagues.
Greg was big in stature with an even bigger heart! He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, the love he had for the Lord, his wife, family, and pups; his passion for life and how he was a wonderful encourager to all he met. Those who knew and dearly loved Greg are left with heavy hearts. We are assured, though, because of his Christian faith, he is now in the arms of his Heavenly Father.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Amy Bonner-Jones of Sandy Springs, GA, his parents David and Maria Jones of Gainesville, GA, his son Jordan Jones, and his three beloved pets, Bentley, Winston, and Milo, whom he affectionately called his “tater tots.” Additionally, he is survived by his brother Neil Jones (Angie) of Phoenix, AZ, his sister Nancy Reincke (Steve) of Waynesboro, PA, his sister-in-law Chrissy Struthers (Gavin) of Blue Ridge, GA, brothers-in-law Scott Bonner (Sue) and Eric Bonner (Kassandra) of Canton, GA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He is also survived by his birth mother, Glenda Whitcanack of Moline, IL, with whom he established a relationship in recent years. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Charles Scott Jones.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd. Roswell, GA 30076. All are welcome to attend the visitation, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., refreshments served, and the memorial service beginning shortly after 3:00 p.m.
