John Donnelly Weiss

Jack was born in 1931 in New Jersey, the youngest of three brothers. In 1955, Jack was down the shore at Bayhead, where he met a Jersey girl named Virginia Benkoil, who was to become his bride and lifelong love. Jack told Ginny that he loved her every day, sweet man that he was. Jack was also known as Sheckie, and Ginny as Gigi. Living in Packanack Lake, New Jersey, Jack and Ginny had five children - Pam, Tim, Patty, Holly and Peter. There are now eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Add the spouses in, that's a family of thirty eight!

Jack and Ginny loved nothing more than bringing this great family together, be it for the holidays, annual trips to Fripp Island or St. George Island, or down the shore in New Jersey. One particularly memorable trip was a windjammer cruise off of Costa Rica. On these trips, we knew the party was on when Jack broke out his signature move, the Sheckie Shuffle.

The memories and love shared across this family were made possible by Jack and Ginny, Gigi and Sheckie. They were an inseparable unit, the foundation of this great family.

Sheckie was a top athlete, playing basketball and football in high school, and earning a basketball scholarship at Utah State. His Jersey roots called him back home though, and he finished his education at Seton Hall, earning a Masters and PhD there. He was quite the golfer, with an amazing five holes-in-one at Packanack Lake Golf Club. He loved to coach and referee as well.

In 1999, Jack and Ginny left behind the snow and taxes and moved to Big Canoe Georgia, rapidly making new friends, while being closer to much of the family. Sheckie was never idle: exercising, golfing, teaching, volunteering and enjoying time with family. There are many great gatherings at Big Canoe.

The world needs more men like Jack. His humility, love and easy-going manner serve as our inspiration. Ginny, we love you and Jack, and always will.
