After a battle with the side effects of a seizure disorder, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jonathan (Jon) Charles Gilson, who departed this world on October 9 at 65 years of age. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on May 9, 1958, Jon was the fifth of 6 children born to Charles and Patricia Gilson in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. From his earliest days, it was clear that Jon possessed a penchant for getting into trouble, including blowing a hole in his school football field and starting a fire in his childhood bedroom with his new chemistry set.
Despite a rocky start, after leaving school at the age of 16, Jon proved himself to have a gift for coding in the early days of personal computers, teaching himself several different programming languages. It was a gift from which he built and sold extremely successful products and businesses related to check processing. He had a long and rewarding career in banking systems.
Jon had a passion for football and loved watching the English national team and Premier League games. He spent years on the field coaching all his children’s travel soccer teams. He also enjoyed Formula One racing, attending the inaugural race in Austin, TX, and watching the races every weekend with his children. Jon grew up singing and playing guitar with his family and passed that love of music to his children.
Jon was a beloved father, husband, brother, son, and friend. His devotion to his family was evident in every interaction. He was generous, kind, and gave the best hugs. Jon never failed to tell those close to him how much he loved them.
Preceded in death by his son, Justin, Jon is survived by his dear friend and ex-wife, Lisa; his children, Ryan and Kelly; his five siblings; his beloved dog, Winston; and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Your love and presence are greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held for his family and friends on November 5th, from 12 – 2 at the Harlow West Subdivision Clubhouse (100 Harlow Circle, Roswell, GA 30076). If the front gate is closed, please dial 146 on the code box.
