Cullen Sugg of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed from this life on January 9, 2012 following a brief illness at the age of 95. The funeral service will be at the North Atlanta Church of Christ in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, January 11, at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek, AL at 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2012.
Mr. Sugg was a cotton farmer in Town Creek for many years following his return from World War II. He grew up in Russellville, AL and graduated from the University of Alabama on a football scholarship. He always loved to share his story of playing in the 1938 Rose Bowl as a member of the Crimson Tide. Mr. Sugg entered the US Army in 1942 and rose to the rank of captain in Patton’s Third Army.
Mr. Sugg is survived by his wife, Dorene, his son Joe and spouse, Melissa, of Alpharetta, Georgia, and his son John and spouse, Janet, of Hartselle, AL; his grandchildren are Ben Sugg, Charleston, South Carolina; Betsy Gardner (spouse, Rick), Mableton, Georgia; John Cullen Sugg (spouse, Jenny), Athens, AL; Sam Sugg and Peter Sugg, Hartselle, AL.
