Julia Collins

Ms. Julia Collins was born to this earth on February 3, 1936 and delivered to God on January 23, 2021. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. George Barber and Mary Jones. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her sister Gracie Mae Rucker Hunt. After the death of her father at an early age her family moved to Elberton, Georgia where she was raised along with her mother and aunts; Geneva Bell and Martha Jones.

She later moved back to Greenville, South Carolina with her father’s family where she attended and graduated from Sterling High School. She eventually moved to New York in the late 1950s in pursuit of job opportunities. She lived in Brooklyn, New York for the majority of her lifetime. Her service to community efforts and education was evident when she was a part of a group that started one of the first Head Start programs in Brooklyn, New York. She worked at The Museum of Modern Art for many years. Julia eventually retired from Deutsche Bank in 2001 where she worked in the Money Transfer Department.

Julia leaves behind many memories and wonderful blessings in her children; Percival Collins, Penelope Collins, Ricky Collins, Brigitte Collins and Monique Dismuke. Daughter-In-Law Sandra Collins, Son-In-Laws Derek Powell, the late Terry Dismuke and Duane Nelson. Brother Rufus (Patricia) Jones and sister Marion Meekins. Grandchilden; Malika Nelson, Naeema Nelson, Taj Nelson, Nia Powell, Trinity Dismuke, Brandon Collins, Pervell M Lynch, Thomas Guitton, Danielle Collins, Nakia Burton, LaToya Collins, Brittany Collins, Deja Hopson and Tatyana Bridges. Great Grandchildren; Mireya Nelson, Aaliyah Lynch, Assya and Swaili Guitton, Petros Robinson, Jermaine Royster, Reginald and Anikah Burton, Rajiik and Kahri Byrd, Alyssah Middleton, Amira Lightfoot, Amarie Collins and Davion Hopson.

Nieces and nephews; Shelba Jones, Sharon Newton (Marvin), Deshondra Fortson, Roscelyn Washington (Nyvelle), Felicia Clay, Tonya Raiford, Teresa Smith, Gwen Barber, James Moon, Jerry Rucker and George Rucker.

Celebration of Life Services for Julia Collins will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00PM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
