Lee Ann was born in Atlanta, GA at Crawford Long Hospital on October 21,1932 to her parents, Joseph and Annis Lawson. Her family moved to Miami, FL when she was two years old. She attended St. Joseph Academy Boarding School from age 10-15. This experience left her with the most vivid memories. It was there that she learned to be self-reliant and acquire many life skills. Upon returning to Atlanta at age 15, she graduated from Sacred Heart Girls High School in Atlanta in 1949. She met the love of her life, David C. Armistead, Jr., on New Year’s Eve that year. She and David were married on David’s birthday on December 29,1950 at Sacred Heart Church, now Basilica, in Atlanta, Georgia. They had four children who all attended St. Pius X High School in Atlanta between the years of 1966 to 1977. Lee Ann worked as the receptionist at St. Pius for two years from 1969-1971. Along with Dave, she never missed seeing their three sons play in a St. Pius football game!
Her role as an unwavering supportive wife to Dave’s paint and supply business ensured the success of that business. Their matching energy and her creative ideas helped to make Armistead Paint & Supply Co. the #1 Independent Paint store in the Southeast in the 70’s. She and Dave were married for 60 years. They loved to laugh, enjoyed the company of each other and their many good lifelong friends. As a friend, she was known for her quick wit, fun nature, and loyalty. She adored her family, and it was the only topic she ever wanted to talk about. After Dave’s passing in 2010, her broken heart was filled with love for her four children, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren with two on the way…all were her pride and joy!
She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking for her family, was an accomplished artist, and loved playing ALTA tennis. She enjoyed sewing, especially Halloween costumes for her many grandbabies, and hosting little granddaughter Tea Parties in the day. She found great pleasure in decorating her beautiful homes. With Dave she traveled to the UK, Vermont, Bermuda, Williamsburg and to Minnesota to see her only daughter’s family. These journeys gave them wonderful experiences and happiness.
Lee Ann is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Jr., her parents, Joseph and Annis Lawson, her beloved Aunt Gaynelle Cook, her brother, Joseph Lawson Jr., her two nephews, Joe and Danny Lawson; and her great granddaughter, Baby Lily Marie Armistead.
She is survived by her four children; 13 grandchildren; and soon to be 15 great-grandchildren.
When asked for her advice about mourning, Lee Ann said, “Just say your prayers, always remember those you loved, and live your life the way the Good Lord would want you to live it.”
