Lorie Albert Moore, age 78, a resident of Roswell, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2021. Lorie was born on December 18, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York. He was born the son of Harriet Augusta Moore and Albert James Moore. Five years after Lorie’s birth, his brother Bruce was born, and the two brothers always remained best of friends.
After graduating from Westbury High School in 1960, Lorie received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated in the top 10% of his class with highest honors in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a company commander his senior year. Lorie really enjoyed playing on the USNA Golf Team for his four years at the academy, where he made lifelong friendships. His love of golf remained a “driving force,” even playing on the last day of his life.
After completing flight training to fly the F-4 Phantom jet, Lorie proudly served his country when he was deployed on the U.S.S. Forrestal in 1967 during The Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. Lorie flew 17 bombing missions in this war. He accomplished over 400 carrier take-off and landings. In addition, Lorie was a well renowned and highly respected flight instructor, promoted to Lieutenant. Lorie was a proud and avidly patriotic man of honor for his entire life, and a loyal friend to all with whom he had served in the Navy. He truly made a positive impact on the lives of all who knew him with his sense of humor, wit, loyalty, and kindness. Lorie retired from the Navy in October of 1970, when he began his new career in the financial world of Wall Street as a successful government bond broker.
On December27, 1970, Lorie married the “love of his life,” Barbara Jane McIlroy, in Garden City, New York. They virtually knew each other all of their lives, having grown up together as close family friends on Long Island. From their first date in 1968 until September 23, 2021, when God took Lorie up to Heaven, Lorie and Barbara had a beautiful love-filled marriage and enjoyed every minute of their life together raising their three precious children. Loyalty and love for his family and friends, that he was blessed with, was always Lorie’s #1 priority throughout his entire life, a life highlighted by celebrating 50 years of marriage on December 27,, 2020.
Lorie adored being a husband, a father to his three children, and a grandfather to five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Devon Moore Tarter and Kendall Moore Porter, his son, Lorie Albert Moore, Jr., and sons-in-law Brian Tarter and Derek Porter, who are all residents of Atlanta. Lorie was not only a super active hands-on father, he delighted in spending as much time as possible with his 5 grandchildren, who fondly called him “GaDada,”a name he was delighted to be called. He was a loving and caring grandfather to our five grandchildren: Alexis Tarter and Ashleigh Tarter, Katelyn Porter, Brent Porter and Mark Porter. In short, Lorie was 100% devoted to our family.
Our family spent many years vacationing and fishing together at our home on Duck Key, Florida. Lorie was an avid fisherman throughout his entire life, sharing his love and vast knowledge of one of his favorite sports with family and friends. Lorie was in good company with a fishing rod in hand, and he always provided the greatest fish stories, as well as tangible proof. Being on the water would always put a huge smile on his face.
Lorie always was lots of fun, loving to dance and party and joke around with friends and family. Suffice to say, he never met a stranger. He was a total extrovert indeed.
To sum up Lorie’s life is an impossible thing to do. However, one must conclude that Lorie Albert Moore truly, deeply loved his family dearly, and he displayed his love and affection to every single one of us. He had such a kind heart, never gossiping or partaking in ugly behavior, and was a loyal man who truly cherished his friends. He was keenly sensitive to others’ feelings and a deep thinker. Lorie was filled with God’s love, and his faith helped him maintain total joy, even throughout many serious medical trials that the Moore family suffered. His family deeply loved him for his consistently kind, sweet nature. Lorie Albert Moore will be deeply missed and will never be replaced in our hearts
