On Thursday, December 8th, 2022, Lucy Mazzacone Nelson-Muoio passed peacefully, just one day shy of her 96th birthday. She will be remembered for her generous spirit to help others and for being a shining light to everyone.
Lucy was born December 9, 1926, and grew up with her six brothers (Angelo, Carmine, Michael, Patsy, Tony and Victor) and one sister (Mary) in Ossining, New York. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary until she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Nelson at a local dance. Nine months later, they married and began their fairytale life in Millwood, New York.
They bought a cute two-bedroom home on Route 100 and filled it with love and laughter. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary Beth and Patti Anne and formed lifelong friendships through the church, neighborhood and firehouse connections. Lucy and Bill moved back to Ossining when their daughters were grown and eventually, they retired in Wilmington, North Carolina.
After Bill's untimely death in 1990, Lucy found love and companionship with Alfred Muoio, and they were married until his death in 2014. Lucy decided it was time to move to Georgia to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She saw all the grandchildren marry, following in her footsteps and living their fairytale.
Lucy was an avid tennis player for most of her life. She loved reading and would often read two to three books at a time! Her friends and family will remember her most for her talent in the kitchen, especially for her homemade noodles, sauce and meatballs! Most important to Lucy however, was her faith. She was an active member of the Catholic Church in every community she lived. Her wonderful humor and abundant joy for life, which she shared in so many ways, were always filtered strongly through her faith. Lucy laughed often, loved always, and prayed devotedly.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Olen and Patricia Nelson (Tim Panetta) along with her three grandchildren, Ryan (Kylene) McNally, Dana (Zach) Zastrow and William (Alisha) McNally. She also was blessed with a great grandchild, Joseph William McNally.
A celebration of life and interment will be held at a future date at St Mark’s Church in Wilmington NC where she will be reunited forever with Bill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for Mass to be said in Lucy's name and those who wish to, can donate to the American Heart Association or American Stroke Foundation.
