Born March 26, 1956, in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, to Owen Rockwood Smyth and Jacquelyn Johnston Smyth. She graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, then continued her studies at Ohio Wesleyan University and Newcomb-Tulane College. It was at Ohio Wesleyan where she met the love of her life, Robert Biringer. They married in 1978 and shared 47 years of laughter, partnership, and love.
Margo’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Barrett (Mallory) Biringer, Tyler (Catherine) Biringer, and Paige (Ryan) Flanagan; and her six beloved grandchildren, Rhett, Tribb, Porter, Logan, Ellie, and Maddox. She is also survived by her siblings, Owen, Braden, and Garrett Smyth.
To those who knew her, Margo was the very definition of selflessness. She was the quiet strength in the room, the one who listened deeply, encouraged gently, and gave freely without ever expecting anything in return. Whether preparing warm meals every night, cheering from the sidelines at countless baseball and soccer games, or simply walking beside someone who needed company, she lived her life in service to others.
Even in her hardest moments—through her courageous journey with Alzheimer’s—her kindness and grace never wavered. She never complained, never asked “why me,” but continued to focus on those around her, reminding everyone through her actions what it means to love unconditionally. Margo leaves behind a legacy of compassion, gentleness, and care that will live on in her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
