Maydora Harper Ladd, “Mitzie” as she was known to her friends, of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Symphony Memory Care in Centerville, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born December 12, 1925, in Newton, Massachusetts, to Charles C. and Hazel H. Ide. She attended Brown University, and in 1949 married the love of her life, William B. Ladd, III. Together they raised five children, moving with Bill’s career to many different states, and finally settling in Dunwoody. There they retired and developed many cherished friendships, especially with members of the Dunwoody Newcomers and “Act II” groups.
Mitzie was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found great joy in making everything “fun”. She loved playing bridge with her friends, and was known as being quite competitive. When family members were around, she always suggested a game of charades. Not “let’s all have fun being together” charades, but “Mom’s team will win at all costs” charades.
Scrabble was another favorite of hers, as she almost always won with her command of 2-letter words like za, xi, or qi. In Monopoly, other players would try to stay in jail to avoid landing on all her hotels. Her invented characters “Dr. Gobbledrops” and “Mrs. Doodlehead”, or games “Huckle Buckle Beanstalk” and “Draw A Magic Circle” entertained her kids and grandkids.
Mitzie was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2009, and by her parents and her brothers Charles, Warren, Frankie, and Henry. She is survived by her beloved younger sister, Marguerite H. Franklin, of South Portland, Maine; her children Beverly Ladd Harner of Springboro, Ohio; William Caldwell Ladd (Rhonda) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; Charles Barton Ladd (Christina) of Cornelia, Georgia; Brett Warren Ladd (Kyle) of Blairsville, Georgia; and Brenda Ladd Kovach (Peter) of Anacortes, Washington. She was a loving and fun grandmother “Mimi” to Andi, Mike, Steve, Kim, Scott, Tommy, Kai, Arianna, Paige, Liberty and Lucy, and a great-grandmother to Rowan, Jamie and Colin.
Visitation is on December 20, 2019, at 10:00 am at the Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell, GA. The service and interment alongside her beloved husband will follow.
