Neirong Xiao

Neirong Xiao 肖内容, aged 59 years, born in Gao’an City in Jiangxi Province in the People’s Republic of China, passed away due to an unknown medical condition on February 10, 2025 in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Neirong, who some may know as Neil, was born in Lao’xiao Cun 老肖村, a village near the city of Gao’an in the Jiangxi province of China to Bingzhe Xiao 肖秉柘 and Gouyin Hu 胡够英 on October 30, 1965. In 1978 when the Cultural Revolution ended, he changed his fate through academic excellence. He went to Huibu High School, where he was the top of his class. He scored the highest in the Yichun Region on the national college entrance exam and was selected to join the Physics Department of the Nanjing University Class in 1983. He graduated in 1987 among the top three of his class. Due to his academic excellence, he was able to waive the graduate admissions test and obtain a master’s degree with a full scholarship. He then moved to the United States in 1991 to pursue his PhD at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he broke a department record by achieving a full score on his comprehensive qualifying exam. He studied solid-state lasers (Dissertation: Electronic Transport in Disordered Semiconductors in Strong Scattering Regime) under his advisor, Dr. Judy Franz, and graduated in 1995. He also completed master’s degrees from UAH in physics and computer science in 1992 and 1995, respectively. Neirong worked in software before branching off into entrepreneurship. He started a company first in data, then in eCommerce, and he ran these companies for 15 years.

Neirong married Lijing Ying 应丽静 on December 15, 1993 in Ningbo. Neirong was a devoted family man and doting father above all else. He spent countless hours supporting his children’s academics and extracurriculars, from piano and ballet to Boy Scouts and robotics. Neirong also loved accompanying his children to every life event. He has flown to France to support his son, Charles 肖康强, on his cross-country bike ride, and to China to chaperone his daughter, Connie 肖康琳, at her internationally televised ballet performance in Beijing. He made his children’s every goal seem within reach. Charles is now a PhD in mechanical engineering, and Connie is soon to finish her MD.

Those who know Neirong appreciate his generous nature, easygoing demeanor, and quirky antics. He was known to burst into song, strike silly poses, and go on grueling hikes in his signature button-down shirt and khaki pants. Friends have enjoyed his home-brewed rice wine and spring bamboo shoot harvests, and he was always ready to host a dinner party. No adventure was too crazy, whether it be a midnight baseball game or multiple cross-country road trips. Neirong was a highly accomplished Go player during college and played regularly online. In the past few years, he has also become an impressive long-distance runner and is a proud member of the Atlanta Red, a Chinese running club. He has completed marathons in Boston, Chicago, Tokyo, Chengdu, and Nanchang within the last two years and was scheduled to run in Berlin and New York in 2025.

Neirong was preceded in death by his father, Bingzhe. Neirong is survived by his wife, Lijing; son, Charles; daughter, Connie; brother, Zhengrong 肖争荣; sisters Xiaoqing 肖小清, Yixiu 肖以秀, and Fangxiu 肖方秀; and mother, Gouyin.

Visitation will be held at 9 am on Sunday, February 16 at Roswell Funeral Home on 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076.

Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Sunday, February 16 at Roswell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum. Both sites are located at 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076.

认识内容的人都对他慷慨的天性、随和的举止和古怪的滑稽动作印象深刻。众所周知，他会随性大声唱歌，摆出滑稽的姿势，并穿着他标志性的纽扣衬衫和卡其色裤子进行艰苦的徒步旅行。朋友们喜欢他自酿的米酒和自种的春笋，他也总喜欢举办晚宴聚集亲友。对他而言，再疯狂的冒险也不为过，无论是午夜棒球比赛还是多次越野公路旅行。内容在大学期间还是一位业余围棋高，经常在线上下棋。在过去的几年里，他也成为了一名令人印象深刻的长跑运动员，并且是亚特兰大中国跑步俱乐部红队的骄傲成员。在过去的两年里，他在波士顿、芝加哥、东京、成都和南昌完成了马拉松比赛，并计划于 2025 年在柏林和纽约参加比赛。
