Patricia Tobin Dawson

Our beloved mother, Patricia Tobin Dawson (Pat), age 91, passed away on Aug.17 in Atlanta, GA. She was born in Chicago, IL on March 15, 1922 to Kenneth J. Tobin and Marguerite Lyons Tobin. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Mickey Tobin, our father, Robert N. Dawson (Cy), and her son, James F. Dawson. (Jim) Pat is survived by her brother and sister, Dick Tobin and Peggy Morris, both of the Chicago area. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Frank and Suzy Kelly, Houston, TX, Barbara and Ernie Herrig, Roswell, GA, Peggy Dawson Edwards, Atlanta, GA, Bob and Kim Dawson, Adairsville, GA and Maggie Dawson, Marietta, GA, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Pat and Cy were married on September 13, 1947 until Cy's death in 1993. They enjoyed 46 years of wonderful times together boating around New England with their family, traveling the world and visiting as many golf courses as they could. They were both very active in golf at Cherokee Town and Country Club and enjoyed many wonderful friends and activities there.

Pat was a graduate of Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, WI and a faithful Catholic throughout her life. This background set her on a path of service to others, be it family, friends and neighbors, or complete strangers. She was compassionate and selfless and her strength to endure the many ups and downs during life's roughest times without complaint were the hallmarks of her strong character. Her kind and loving heart was always ready to aid and support. She was an avid volunteer in all areas of her children's lives, including scout leader, homeroom mother, costume designer, Sandy Springs High School chicken dinner ticket-taker, sewer of cancer pads for hospital patients, knitter of caps and booties for hospital newborns, and visitor to the sick and lonely. Pat served many years as an election precinct poll manager and she was devoted to Assistance League of Atlanta and served in many capacities.

We will miss her immeasurably. A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Patricia Tobin Dawson will be held on Tuesday, august 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Saint Peter Chanel Catholic Church. Entombment will be at a later date.
