Patricia Perry, 82, of Cumming, GA, passed away on September 28, 2011. Her Quaker upbringing and beliefs were guiding principals in her life and always present in her dealings with people. While raising her children she was a den mother, Cub Scout leader, blue bird leader and developed a reputation as rock candy maker for the neighborhood. It was a joy for her to introduce to children the enjoyment of capturing the world around us in a painting. After raising five children and retiring from teaching, Pat took up painting. Her ability in the domain was increased by constant study and practice. She studied art with local and national teachers and belonged to several associations and societies including the Southeastern Pastel Society where she was a member of excellence. Her works were exhibited in juried shows and won several awards. Flowers were often the subject of her paintings and she grew her own flowers which were often used as models. One of her favorite activities was to meet with artist friends for Plein Aire painting sessions held in various local settings that had artistic appeal. Through her productive years she completed hundreds of drawings, sketches and paintings. She maintained an interest and was active in her artwork up to the last days of her life. She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Perry; sons, William, Robert, Stuart and spouse Mary Perry; daughters, Kristine and Katherine; sisters, Juanita Setrie and Garnet Vanhouten. There will be a memorial service held at Roswell Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 1:30 pm with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org).
