Phillip Yoannides Young, 95, of Atlanta, GA and Tarpon Springs, FL passed away early morning on Wednesday, October 24, 2019 at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Tarpon Springs, FL on August 9, 1924, and educated during his young years in Athens, Greece. When he was seventeen years of age, he returned to the U.S. and joined the U.S. Army. He spoke four languages, and at various times, owned restaurants in Florida and Georgia. He was also a tax accountant. He loved meeting his "coffee buddies" several times a week at Lenox Square to discuss politics, life, and humor. He was an avid reader and his friends dubbed him "The Philosopher."
He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta, and survived by Popi, his wife of 54 years, his daughters Mary and Irene (Ann-deceased), Rita (Popi), grandchildren Nicholas and Buddy, brother Michael Y. Young (Helen), Nephews Steve Young and Edward Yoannides-Young, and nephew, John Gouzos.
Visitation will be at Roswell Funeral Home at 950 Mansell Road Roswell, GA on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM followed by Trisagion Service at 5:00 PM. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 28, 2019 11:00 AM at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation at 2500 Clairmont Road in Atlanta, GA.
