Roland Scott Rayburn, 66, of Roswell, GA went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2022. Although his passing was unexpected, he did not suffer. Scott was born in Tuscola, IL to the late Roland Cecil Rayburn and Helen Bright Rayburn. He then lived in Atlanta, Pensacola and Richmond before settling in Tampa.
He graduated from Chamberlain High School in Tampa and then walked onto the football team at the University of Florida as a defensive back where his love for the Gators became etched in stone. Attending Gator games became a cherished family tradition after marriage and children. Scott majored in Economics and was hired as a Financial Advisor by EF Hutton immediately upon graduation. For the past 20 years, he has worked for Raymond James & Associates. Scott always put the needs of his clients first and treated them like family. He considered managing his clients’ portfolios an honored privilege.
Scott was a kind and humble man. As a devoted Christian, he became the Teaching Director of the Community Bible Study (CBS) Dunwoody Evening class in 2019. Scott was also the CBS Ambassador to Nepal for the past 7 years. He loved traveling to Nepal each year with Julie to train and support the CBS Nepal ministry. Scott was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell and a member of the Crossing Jordan Sunday School class. As a member of Horseshoe Bend Country Club, he played golf on Saturdays with his golf buddies. He was always working to improve his game and optimistic that he had just discovered the “key” to a great golf swing. He also enjoyed gardening and grilling over a charcoal fire.
While at the University of Florida, Scott met the love of his life, Julie Murray. They married after graduation and were blessed with 44 years of marriage. Scott was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He poured himself into his family and absolutely adored his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Murray Rayburn; his daughter, Jennifer Rayburn Goodwin of Cumming; his son, Rolland Thomas Rayburn (Kelley) of Woodstock; five grandchildren: Karyssa, Alex, Samantha, Jackson and Hudson; his brother, Lee Rayburn (Sissy) of Clemson, SC; his sister, Carol Price (Bob) of Alpharetta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11:00AM at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2850 Old Alabama Rd, Johns Creek, GA 30022. A private burial service for family will be held on April 23, 2022 at Historic Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grace Valley Ministries (P.O. Box 451, Holly Springs, GA 30142) or Community Bible Study (790 Stout Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80921), on memo line- “Country of Nepal”.
