Richard Joseph Halloran, 85, entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He passed away peacefully at home in Roswell, Georgia with his family by his side. He is survived by his daughter, Caroline Halloran; son, Andrew Halloran and his wife Jennifer; daughter, Jennifer Halloran; daughter, Beth Strain and her husband Colin; daughter, Megan Ray and her husband Adam; as well as, brother, Dennis Halloran. Richard was a beloved grandfather to Will, Matthew, Claire, Michael, Drew, Laine, Abel, Frederick and April. He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marguerite Doulos Halloran.
Born in Pipestone, Minnesota to Theresa and Martin Halloran, he was the youngest of six children, all working the family farm together. He received a B.A. degree in Economics from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960 as a Lieutenant and remained in the USNR until being honorably discharged in 1970. Richard set out on a new adventure to New York, where he built his career at First National City Bank changing names to Citibank (formerly Citicorp) as an executive in corporate credit and securities. Richard met his wife Marguerite at Citibank, and married on April 20, 1963. Seeking more time with his family, he accepted a position with Citibank in Atlanta in 1980 and moved to the historic, southern town of Roswell, Georgia with Marguerite and their five children. After seven years in Georgia, he accepted a transfer within the company to Miami, Florida. The Halloran family moved to the growing suburban town of Coral Springs, Florida for some fun in the sun. With the closing of the Miami office, Richard worked in New York to finish his career with Citibank while the family finished school in Florida. He accepted a position with then SouthTrust (Wachovia later purchased) in Atlanta and the family returned to Roswell, Georgia once again. He retired from Wachovia in 2006 before WellsFargo acquired it and lived the remainder of his life in Roswell.
A charismatic gentleman, everyone loved Richard for his ability to joke around and connect. A devout Catholic, Richard was kindhearted; working with various ministries including St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, and also served as an usher. A true caretaker, he was an avid dog lover, taking care of the family dogs waking early each morning as if he still lived on the farm. He had a calm and peaceful demeanor, his most relaxed state was perhaps puffing his pipe with a newspaper in hand.
His funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, 11330 Woodstock Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075 with a reception to follow and a graveside service to conclude the event.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Richard’s favored charities, St. Vincent de Paul or the North Fulton Community Charities, are lovingly accepted.
