

Mrs. Ruth C. Wood of Woodstock, GA, passed away on Nov. 18, 2011. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. The eldest of 8 children, she was forever devoted to her family. She loved arts and crafts and was an accomplished artist.
Ruth was born in 1921 in Massachusetts. Her unique and profound association with the United States Marine Corps began before her enlistment in 1943 when she became one of the first Women Marine Reservists (WR) serving at Headquarters Marine Corps in Washington. Making up this list of Marines are her father Sgt. John C. Coggin, USMC and eventual father-in-law Samuel Wood, Pvt. USMC.
Sgt. Wood married Master Technical Sgt. Wood in 1945. Later came her 2 sons, Capt. Wood and LCpl Wood, as well as 6 brothers (and in-laws), all WWII generation Marines. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1986 they relocated to Roswell, residing first in Saddlebrook Forest Subdivision, then Chambrell of Roswell and moving to Woodstock 4 years ago.
She is survived by her loving family which includes her husband of 66 years, Roland; sons, Dick & Peggy Wood, of Woodstock and Roland & Lana Wood, of New Mexico; brothers, William Coggin and John Coggin, Jr. both of MA; sister, Ingrid Chruniak, of MA and sister-in-law, Olga Wood, Dover, NJ; grandchildren, Corrie Barker, of Watkinsville, Samantha Holohan, of Hamilton, VA, Richard Wood, Jr., Philip Wood, Katie Wood, all of Woodstock, Val Wood, and Ronnie Wood; great grandchildren, Emma and Ryan Barker, of Watkinsville, Jack and Matthew Holohan of VA.
Visitation will be from 10 - 11 A.M. and the funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, both at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd., Roswell, GA, 30076. She will be placed at rest at Green Lawn Cemetery following the service. Roswell Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
