Samuel Pierce Pittard passed away surrounded by his loved ones on April 20th, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born February 19th, 1942, in Atlanta, GA to parents William “Steve” Pittard and Missoura “Ourie” Hague Pittard.
Sam was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his profound love for his family and enjoyed nothing more than telling stories of his youth in Atlanta working for the Atlanta Crackers, selling ice cream at the Varsity, and ushering at the Fox theatre. In his later years, he loved bragging on all his children and grandchildren. Sam cared deeply about helping those who needed help such as his in-laws, his work friends and his neighbors. Sam also touched the lives of others with his service to fellow heart patients through his work with Mended Hearts in Cherokee County.
In his spare time, Sam loved to read history, listen to music, work on his computers, and cheer mightily for the Dawgs, Falcons and Braves. His biggest cheers though were for his kids and grandkids when they competed in various sports. Traveling was another favorite activity whether it involved going to the beach every summer or making a terrific European journey with Judy after they retired.
Throughout his life, Sam worked hard to achieve his goals. He graduated from Georgia State University and worked for decades at Georgia Power and Southern Company helping to build their Information System computer network from scratch. Later he joined Santee Cooper in South Carolina in a VP position and helped lead the company to become one of the largest public power utilities in the nation.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Judy Pittard, children and stepchildren Kevin (Michele) Pittard, Kim (Steve) Pittard Fulmer, Samantha (Lee) Pittard Mattox, and Shanna Dockins, grandchildren Michael (Khaetlyn) Pittard, Matthew Pittard, Andy Fulmer, Emily Fulmer, Erich Fulmer, Sean Fulmer, Greg Mattox, Samuel Mattox, Kate McAdoo, and Owen McAdoo. He was preceded in death by his parents William “Steve” Pittard and Missoura “Ourie” Pittard, his brother, Steve Pittard, and his stepson Matthew Dockins.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 25th, at 3:00 pm at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church, 4056 E Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA 30115.
Sam’s departure leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will forever be cherished.
