Theodore Conway Strauss, Jr., at the remarkable age of 96, slipped away peacefully on March 23, 2026. Born on June 28, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he arrived as the eldest son of Theodore Conway Strauss Sr. and Jessica Irene Virginia Pershing Strauss—ushered into a world that he would fill, throughout his life, with kindness, laughter, and a quiet, steady strength.
After finishing high school, Ted proudly stepped into service with the United States Marines, answering his country’s call during the Korean War. He served with honor as a Staff Sergeant, rifle instructor, and skilled sharpshooter. When he returned home, he carried that same determination into his education, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was also a devoted member of the gymnastics team, specializing in the high bar. His love of learning carried him even further as he went on to earn his master’s degree, a gentle testament to his dedication, curiosity, and unwavering character.
Ted was not only a beloved husband and a deeply loving father, but he was also the steady, comforting heartbeat of his family. His joy for life revealed itself in the smallest, sweetest moments: the warmth of his smile, the patience in his listening, the quiet pride in his eyes when he looked at the people he loved most. Family was his compass. The love he held for his wife and daughter was not just a piece of his life, it was the very center of his world, the place that gave him his deepest happiness and purpose.
For 62 years, Ted and Joy built a life hand in hand, creating a love story that felt almost timeless. Their devotion showed itself not in grand gestures, but in everyday tenderness—shared smiles, steady support, and a respect so genuine it became the foundation of everything they were together. It was a love many only dream of, and few ever truly find.
In his spare time, Ted found so much joy in the simple, comforting pleasures of life. He loved being out on the golf course—proudly earning his place in the Hole in One Club—and he treasured every moment spent traveling with his beloved wife. Some of his happiest days were spent on water boating or quietly working on the delicate craft of building model airplanes. Ted’s playful spirit shone brightly too; he was a true card shark and a Yahtzee genius, always ready for a friendly challenge and a good laugh. He remembered his gymnastics days at the University of Pittsburgh with great fondness, carried immense pride in being a Marine, and cheered wholeheartedly for his beloved Steelers. Every one of his passions reflected the warmth, humor, and gentle enthusiasm that made him so dearly loved.
In business, Ted carried the same heart, strength, and determination that shaped every part of his life. He served on many boards, helped bring several companies to life, and proudly built his own financial design firm specializing in banks and credit unions throughout the Southeast. His dedication earned him a lifetime membership with the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce—an honor he held with quiet gratitude. Through every success, Ted remained grounded in the values he lived by - your word was your bond, and a handshake was a promise. To him, integrity was not simply part of doing business, it was the true reflection of who he was.
Ted and Joy were devoted members of Roswell Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, giving their time and their hearts to their church family. From teaching Sunday school to lovingly supporting and guiding the youth group, they poured kindness, patience, and faith into everything they did. Their presence became a steady source of warmth and encouragement, touching countless lives across the decades.
He will be deeply and lovingly missed by his adoring wife, Brenda Joy Strauss; his daughter, Andrea Strauss Bachman; son in law, Bradley S. Bachman and their many fur grandchildren; his brother, Gordon Strauss, and his wife, Jan; and two nieces; his sister in law, Dottie Atlee; his nephew, Kyle; Brother in law Franklin Moore and wife Sue and their families; and the many friends whose lives were brightened simply by knowing him. Each of them carries with them a piece of his warmth, his gentle humor, and the quiet strength that made him so dearly loved.
