Tom was born in Cortland, New York, the son of the late Kenneth and Frances Young McEvoy. He grew up on the family farm, in the Town of Marathon, NY in the County of Cortland, where his Father was the County Sheriff and his Mother a nurse. Following Marathon High School graduation, Class of 1961, Tom attended Central City Business Institute, in Syracuse, NY.
In 1963, he married his High School sweetheart, Joan Lumbard McEvoy and Tom began a distinguished career in sales which required him and his family to relocate across the country, from coast to coast. His sales career began with the Brockway Motor Company in Cortland, NY. It can be said that at one time or another, Tom was employed by most of the big trucking companies. When he retired in 2000 he had been employed for the past 11 years with Western Star Trucks of British Columbia, Canada.
Tom loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, traveling and touring in their RV motor home. He was proud to be a Mayflower Descendant, he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Tom enjoyed golf, boating and at one time had a motorcycle. He particularly enjoyed coaching youth baseball. He and Joan, who survives him, have two daughters: Kelly (Michael) Miller of Roswell, Georgia and Jody McEvoy at home. Tom is also survived by his grandsons and proud of the life choices they have made: Blake (Kayla) Miller and Chad (Emma) Miller all of Roswell; a brother, Charles McEvoy of Marathon, NY; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy in 2016.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 8 at the Roswell United Methodist Church Chapel, calling hours at 1 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the ceremony at the Green Lawn Cemetery.
