

William Frank "Rock" Callender, 83, of Roswell, GA passed away on May 24, 2011. He was born on August 10, 1927 in DeLand, FL to Nelson and Pickett Callender. His education included Miami High School and Emory University where he
graduated in 1950 with a BA in Chemistry and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. William was a member of the Eagle Scouts, which is where he gained the nickname "Rock" and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy in 1946 as an Aerographer's Mate Third Class but continued to serve as Ensign in the Navel Reserves until 1967. He worked for Will Scientific in Atlanta for many years as Vice President of the Southeastern division and retired from the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006. William was also a Colon Cancer survivor since 1984 and a member of Roswell Presbyterian Church, where he was the member of the Men's Bible Class and Wit and Wisdom Committee, since 1964. Surviving William is his wife of 59 years, Betty; son, Tim of Cary, SC; daughter, Constance of Biloxi, MS; granddaughters, Erin Callender of Eguilles, France and Ashley Curran of Gulfport, MS ;and was blessed by great-grandchildren, Michael Wagner and Hailey Curran. A memorial service will be held for William on Tuesday, May 31 at 11:00 am at Roswell Presbyterian Church's Historic Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Roswell Presbyterian Church (www.roswellpres.org) or the Salvation Army(www.salvationarmyusa.org/).
