W.K. was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina in 1954 to parents William Kyle Rogers Sr and Helen Jean Scott. The oldest of four children, he had two younger brothers, David (Eve) Rogers and Mark Rogers, and a younger sister Sharon (David) Sweet. He spent his childhood in Marble, North Carolina and his adolescence in Cumming, Georgia. When he was 16 he moved to Atlanta where he met his wife, Nancy Herrington. They were married in 1977 and settled in Roswell, Georgia. W.K. began working for ECI Management in 1983 and eventually became the company’s maintenance superintendent for all properties. He retired in November 2016.
W.K. was an avid outdoorsman who spread his love of nature to his entire family. W.K. enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, mountain climbing, caving, swimming, and driving his old Jeep, Eugene, through the mountains. He also had many hobbies which included woodworking, metalworking, gardening, cooking, tinkering with appliances, and home improvement. He was a self-proclaimed redneck Renaissance man--able to fix or build anything. He enjoyed watching old movies with his wife and children, and taking family trips to Florida.
W.K was a man of high integrity, a man described as courageous, tender hearted, and funny. W.K. could find humor, especially irreverent humor, in any situation and often had the people around him laughing and shaking their heads. He was extremely generous, gracious, and compassionate. He lived every day to its fullest and created special moments for those around him on a daily basis. He was truly a unique individual who impacted the lives of everyone he was around.
W.K. is survived by his wife Nancy Rogers; four children, Jennifer, Carrie, Matthew, and Daniel; and his sister Sharon Sweet. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and best friend, Crafton Brooks.
His remains will be cremated and there will be a public memorial service at Roswell Funeral Home on February 20, 2017. Visitation with the family will start at 10:00 am and the service will start at noon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate W.K.’s life.
