Yuan Yulan "Judy" Chen, a beacon of strength and grace, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in Alpharetta, GA, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. Born on April 24, 1935, in Jiangsu, China, she was the beloved daughter of Mr. Paul Weiming Yuan and Yung Lan Yuan. Judy was the second of eight children, and from her early years, she exhibited a remarkable spirit of fortitude and perseverance.
Judy's childhood was marked by the tumult of political upheaval, prompting her family to relocate to Taiwan in search of freedom from Communist oppression. Despite facing the challenges of poverty and displacement, Judy's indomitable spirit shone through, shaping her into the strong and resilient woman she would become.
Education was Judy's gateway to a brighter future, and she pursued it with unwavering determination. She graduated from Tamkang University with a Bachelor's degree in English, a testament to her intellectual prowess and perseverance in the face of adversity.
In the course of her journey, Judy's path crossed with that of Chao Sheng "Frank" Chen, a Lieutenant Commander in the Taiwanese Navy, with whom she shared a deep and abiding love. Their marriage was a union of kindred spirits, marked by mutual respect, unwavering devotion, and shared dreams. Together, they embarked on a new chapter, moving to Richmond, VA, in 1969, where they laid down roots and built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Judy's greatest joy in life was her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family, instilling in them values of compassion, integrity, and resilience. Her love knew no bounds, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her.
In her later years, Judy faced the loss of her beloved husband, Chao Sheng "Frank" Chen, with courage and grace, embodying the strength and resilience that defined her life. Though she may have departed this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her devoted son, Dr. Jack Chen, and her two cherished grandchildren, Julia and Alex, who will carry forward her legacy of love and perseverance.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. A funeral to celebrate her life will begin at 12:00pm, immediately following the visitation. As we bid farewell to Judy, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure for generations to come. Though she may be gone, her memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
