Though he did his best, Joe didn't quite make 100 years of age. Joseph Patrick McArdle was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle to many, and remained the sitting patriarch of a large Irish clan for many years. The Catholic Church was an extremely important part of Joe's life, and he attended mass daily for many years until he could no longer do so.
Joe was born in January, 1917, to Irish immigrant parents : Patrick and Hanna McArdle. He was the middle of 5 siblings: Catherine who died in childhood, and Johnny, Eileen, and Dolly who all enjoyed long healthy lives. Joe bravely served 4 years overseas in The Big War and, in his later years, often spoke with his children about those experiences. After his discharge, Joe married Helen Downey and together they had 3 children: Sally, Pat, and Kevin. Pat's wife, JoAnn, and Kevin's wife, Anna were happily added to Joe's family. Joe loved his 5 grandchildren: Traci, Kelli, Joe, Shelly, and Matthew. Traci and Kelli gave him the precious gift of 5 great-grandchildren who entertained him in his final years.
After Helen's death in 1998, Joe married Marcene Osborn who was a long time family friend. They had several happy years together before she passed away. Joe spent his final years in Oakmont Assisted Living where he became a much loved resident. These people took wonderful care of him, especially in his final days, and his family is so appreciative of their loving attention. Though his entire family is grateful Joe is at peace and with those who have passed before him, they will forever miss him.
