Born on December 31, 1969 in Tacoma, Washington, Dawn passed away on November 22, 2024 in Wilton, California at the age of 54 after a courageous two and a half year battle with breast cancer.
Dawn is survived by her father Donald Mashburn of Wilton, California; husband Michael Riley; precious daughters Courtney and Kaitlyn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Ronee Kay Mashburn (Lorigan) and her beautiful sister Candy Lynn Mashburn. They have been reunited in Heaven.
Dawn graduated from Hiram Johnson High School (West Campus) in Sacramento in 1988, continued her education at Cosumnes River College and graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in child development. She worked as a cashier at the Lucky’s grocery store in Rosemont during high school and college prior to beginning her career with the State of California Department of Justice in 1993.
Dawn was a superior softball pitcher in high school and at Cosumnes River College. She loved watching her daughters compete in sports and was so proud of all their accomplishments on and off the field. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and that will be her legacy. She was the most wonderful daughter, wife, mother, niece, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Harper Alumni Center at Sacramento State University, south side of campus near the Hornet Football Stadium.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WEAVE (When Everyone Acts, Violence Ends) or the American Cancer Society. Both organizations held a special place in Dawn’s heart.
