Elmer is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elsie Petersen, brother Ken Petersen (Joanne), children David Petersen (Lorenna), Michele Wagstrom (Craig), Nanette Cordell, and Cheryl Moore (Scott), grandchildren Trystan, Russell (Simone), Alex, and Lori, great grandchildren, and many extended relatives.
Born in Placerville, CA in 1931 to Frederick and Emma Petersen, he spent much of his youth getting into mischief with his brothers and sister before joining the Air Force.
Elmer married the love of his life, Elsie, on June 11, 1955. They spent their younger years raising four children and establishing themselves in their neighborhood, church, and children’s school (All Hallows). After a long and fruitful career with Pacific Bell (ATT) he retired in 1984. Elmer and Elsie traveled extensively in retirement. And whether cruising or traveling in their 5th wheel, they met and made many friends over the years.
He will be remembered as the one-man neighborhood welcoming committee, the man you could always count on to lend a hand, the bountiful garden he shared with family, friends, and neighbors alike, and the guy who never met a stranger. At 92 he was still walking at the park 3 times per week with his walking group.
He is missed and we all have wonderful memories that we will hold in our hearts forever.
A graveside service for Elmer will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Mary Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave, Sacramento, CA 95820. Following the graveside service will be a reception from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Saint Peter- All Hallows' Parish, 5501 14th Ave, Sacramento, CA 95820.
