Jane Simons, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died at 91 in Sacramento on January 30, 2017. Born November 26, 1925, in Roswell, New Mexico, Jane lived in Texas until she graduated from the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital Nursing School in San Antonio in 1945. After coming to California as a young nurse, she lived the rest of her life in the San Francisco Bay Area, Soulsbyville, and Sacramento. She earned a B.A. degree from Redlands University in 1977. After she retired and was widowed, she volunteered at Kaiser in South Sacramento, bowled on a senior ladies league, played canasta whenever she could, and was always ready to have fun with her family.
Jane was preceded in death by Theodore Simons, her husband of 40 years, her sister Elizabeth Dymond, her sister-in-law Jean Delee, and her brother-in-law Chuck Delee. She is survived by her dear children, Rita Marowitz (Len), Ted Simons Jr. (Lisa), and Laurie Schell (Gary); her adored grandchildren Kelly Earlywine (Ralph), Ted G. Simons (Brittany), Jillian Bowen (Johnny), Glenn Schell, and Sara Jane Schell; her sweet great-grandchildren Logan Earlywine, Tommie Jane Earlywine, and Liam Bowen; her brother-in-law Robert Simons, sister-in-law Myrt Simons; and many nieces and nephews. The two great joys in Jane’s life were her family and her 45-year career as a nurse. She made the world a better place with her devotion to her family and her ability to always see the best in people.
Her family is grateful to Love & Serenity Care Home and Eskaton Care Center Greenhaven for caring so well for Jane in her final years.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home, 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822, with a lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Aid Society of Northern California (http://alzaid.org) or Loaves and Fishes of Sacramento (http://www.sacloaves.org).
