My heart hurts finding out about the passing of Katie. I always enjoyed our conversations and text messages.  She had a wonderful soul and heart.  She was always willing to help everyone, especially during the holidays.  

Rest easy my friend.

As I reflect on my 20-year journey of participating in various athletic events, from 5K run/walks to marathons, century bike rides, and Ironman Triathlons, I'm filled with gratitude for the incredible support system that has propelled me forward. My wife, Mary, and close friends have been beacons of encouragement, helping me push through demanding training sessions and revel in my accomplishments at the finish line. At this time, I'd like to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Katherine (Katie) Anne Vona. As a sports physical therapist, Katie has been an integral part of my athletic journey, providing expert care and guidance as I overcame injuries and stayed focused on my goals over the past two decades. Though Katie's passing last month has left a lasting impact, her legacy will continue to inspire and motivate the Sacramento region athletic community. I just learned of your passing and I'm filled with gratitude for the profound impact you had on my life. I first met you when I was training for various races, most notably Boston. Your expertise and encouragement empowered me to push beyond my limits, and with your guidance, I was able to succeed. We had so many impromptu end of day pup walks at the park. Kona and Russ liked watching the ducks, birds and of course all the squirrels while Katie and I caught up on life a bit! 😘🐾🐾

My name is Charlie Kramer and Katie was a staple in my life. I first met her when I was in 7th grade and she was this very kind and energetic person who was helping my injury’s healed. As I laid on that table every week I we picked at each other to learn more until we  had become friends. Then it just became weekly catch ups with her every-week.  She would help me heal and with every injury I had.  The conversation I’d have with her would mean more and more. As I’d show up and always give Kona her treat.  Her love for Baseball and mine kept us close even though she loved the giants. She would help me pick homecoming dates or be there when I needed an outlet. Help me in my day to day school and always keep me positive throughout my week. She supported me in my baseball seasons and loved to hear about how I did. She would always have new information about how cool the human body is which inspired me to take anatomy and study under wing to be like her . As I’m sad she has passed I know she lives on in my day to day life through her virtues of love and care. She taught me to love what I do and to always keep working for my goals. As I thought it was gonna be a one time appointment at the start, it had turned into a friendship and mentor in my daily life. She will always be a part of my life.

Katie you were such a beautiful kind soul.  God has a new angel.  You gave so much love. You cheered for me, you encouraged me, and you repaired me after all the miles.  God I pray, comfort Katie’s family and friends during this time of mourning and reflection. Give all your mercy and strength to understand your mysteries. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Oh, how I will miss Katie's infectious energy, larger-than-life personality, and always cheery attitude. Katie is the external cheerleader, always wanting the best for all her athletes. We met Katie through her sport message practice. She was truly a healer and the biggest supporter of her athletes.  A memory I will always hold dear is when I ran the CIM two years ago and I saw Katie and Kona cheering at the Alhambra and J street. I hugged her and told her I was struggling; she instantly gave me the encouragement I needed to get to the finish line.  My heart is gutted from her loss, but I know her ripple is strong, and her light is within all of us who had the privilege of being a part of her life. We will miss you Katie, The Petruzzelli Family.

I have know Katie since Elementary school. We played sports together at Holy Spirit, then ended up going to St Francis together! When she graduated she asked me to be her honor guard ❤️ in College Katie helped me get an externship where she was working! She was such a wonderfully loving person! Her heart was SO BIG and she made sure everyone was taken care of. The bear she gave me for my oldest has been a staple in our house for EVERY birthday picture! With life and schedules I am sad we didn’t see each other much, but I knew at ANY time if I needed she would be there! That’s the person Katie was no matter what. She was such a bright light that will now shine down on us from Heaven.
She will be truly missed, but I know she is reunited with her mom❤️ selfishly I am saw we didn’t have more time.

Katie was such a a bubbly, sweet person. I met her working at Gap and we immediately connected.  We hung out and she became a very dear friend. Her smile would light up the room. She had a beautiful heart always wanting to make sure the kids at Shriners Children's hospital had toys every Christmas.  I'll always give a toy in her honor.  As life got busy, we became more media friends and for that I wish I could go back and sit and have another lunch with her and laugh about life. Katie you will be missed so much.

I was one of Katie’s teachers at SFHS in Sacramento. Some  students are etched in one’s memories for various reasons. To me, Katie was one of those students. I knew Katie to be kind, sweet and compassionate to everyone she met.

After Katie graduated from high school, I kind of lost track of her. We then became friends on Facebook.  We ran into each other a few years after she got Kona at Sacramento Animal Hospital. My beagle Troubadour was named after our school mascot. I was so happy to meet sweet Kona, as I adore Goldens. I could tell how proud Katie was of Kona and I really wanted to meet Kona after seeing posts of Kona.

I was always so proud of Katie in her professional life. What a passionate and giving person volunteering hundreds of hours to amateur athletes as well as to Olympic athletes for many years. Katie organized toy drives at Christmas as well. I like so many of you are saddened and shocked by her passing.

I will Never forget the day Katie was picked by Kona! She came to my house to select which puppy would go home with her… she had her eye on Orange female from the pictures I had posted , but she wasn’t certain since they hadn’t met … well let me just tell you it was instant love between the two!! Kona just crawled into Katie’s lap and that was the start of their story! I have loved knowing Katie and getting all the updates and holiday photos of Kona! I tell people about them all the time. My heart aches for the loss of such a young , caring and giving person ! However I can help in finding Kona her next forever home , please reach out !

Katie will be dearly missed by all those who knew her! Her friends,  who were her family will have a void in their life and she will always hold a special place in our hearts. She was strong, fierce, independent, loyal, compassionate and caring to those who surrounded her with love. 
I know she and her mother will find each other and eternally rest in peace.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Katie was a beautiful human.  We met years ago while vacationing in Hawaii and maintained that friendship for over a decade.  She visited me in Indiana, we visited a common friend from that trip in LA and I went to Sacramento, Tahoe and San Fran to see her.  A chat with Katie was always FaceTime and there was no telling what story she would tell me or how hard we would laugh.  She was high energy, confident and such a go getter.  She truly was the most beautiful soul who converted strangers to lifelong friends.
