Was just thinking of her and was saddened to hear that she has passed. I often sought her advice as she was such a voice of reason. She saw and nurtured the strengths in so many children. She helped me to be a better parent too. She loved reading and was eager to share recommendations. She was a treasure!

Marguerite Crown was an exceptional woman of wisdom and grace who had an enduring fondness and dedication to Sierra Oaks School as well as the school community. I’m sure she will truly be missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.

If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.

I got a note in the mail today, with the sad news about Ms. Marguerite.  Susan, thank you so much for making sure we knew, our hearts hurt with yours.

Ms. Marguerite was an amazing lady!  Her help, kindness and knowledge, about EVERYTHING, was one of the BEST things about Sierra Oaks.  We are all the better for her care and attention.

Ms. Marguerite was so  genuine, I enjoyed our, chit chats, over the front office desk, when ever I was at the school.  She also, without fail, would send sweet thank you notes, for gifts she received from us through the years.  When she had to leave Sierra Oaks, due to illness, we were devastated, but we stayed in contact through the mail, and as always she responded back with a sweet mailing of her own.  I have kept her cards and I will continue to keep them with cherished memory.

Susan, to you and your family, we are deeply sorry for your loss and we  pray for peace and healing through your hardest days.

Marguerite was the one person who knew everything there was to know about Sierra Oaks. I spent many after school minutes talking with her in the office about everything and anything. She will be missed, but her memories will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

As so many other active Sierra Oaks parents are certain to attest, Marguerite was the glue that held a very special school together. Full of guidance, understanding, and encouragement, thank you, Marguerite, for all that you did to help me in the volunteer roles I played as a parent. To this day, I drive by looking for the white Subaru often seen hours after a normal day of work. Remember well me taunting you with the after hour phone calls telling you to “go home!” and am thankful for the equally taunting calls in return when I neglected to do something “Sam, did you want…????” The answer was always YES! Fantastic memories of a truly dedicated person. May your legacy always remember how truly special you were.

Marguerite was one of 3 young women from Ukiah I met as a Berkeley freshman in 1965.  Marguerite, Marcia, and I remained friends through many adventures.  We shared many of life's most important events:  weddings, birthdays, anniversaries.  We all know the person who really runs a public school is the school secretary and that was Marguerite.  She was committed to making her school the best and protecting the children. They were lucky to have her.  In more recent years, Marguerite was often my traveling partner.  One of the best times was the yoga retreat to Costa Rica with Susan.  Marguerite, Susan, and I rode horses up a volcano, soaked in natural pools, did yoga every morning, took long nature hikes (really wades as it was the rainy season), saw sloths up close and much more.  Then there was the Nile cruise, the Greek Island cruise, Hungary, Salzburg, and more.  We got lost in Athens and ended up at the Tower of the Winds.  Marguerite was a wonderful companion and up for an adventure at the drop of a hat.  I will miss her terribly.

I have known Marguerite since we were sophomores at Ukiah High School. We shared several classes. We really got to know and enjoy each other as friends when we were in the same small dorm at Berkeley.
What I enjoyed most was her dry sense of humor and clear intelligence.  Through weddings, travel, joys and sadnesses, Marguerite, Tam, my husband Bill and I have kept in touch.  The last forty (or so) years we have all been back in California .  At least once or twice a year, we would get together either at our house or a theater and dinner with Tam. Humorous phone calls were often, as were her quick visits on her way to family in San Diego or ours to family in Chico.
Marguerite will remain in our thoughts, as a gift she gave me once said..”friends forever “. Goodbye and good night dear friend.

Thank you to everyone who has already left a memory at the Sierra Oaks Facebook and Camp Minaluta Alumni Facebook group (private).

Marguerite will be remembered with much appreciation and fondness by our household. She was the steady rock at Sierra Oaks through the changes of administration and grade level reconfigurations. There was not a problem that she couldn’t solve for us within our school life. As the school secretary, Marguerite was part of the foundation that keeps our community together in the best of ways.
