at the age of 79.
Meredith was the fourth of five children born to Wilbert and Evelyn Youngren in Seattle,
Washington on March 30, 1944. She graduated from Queen Anne High School then went to
college at both George Fox University and Seattle Pacific College (University) where she
received a Bachelor of Arts in Education.
After college, Meredith moved to Sacramento to teach at an elementary school. She met her
husband, Marvin through mutual friends who set them up on a blind date and they married
November 28, 1970. They moved up to Vancouver, WA for work where they had their first
daughter, Shana in 1973 and moved again, this time to Fountain Valley, CA where they had
their second daughter, Amy in 1976. Another move not too long after that took them to Fair
Oaks, CA where Meredith was a devoted stay at home mother who loved to bake fresh bread,
cinnamon rolls and other amazing treats, sew clothes for Shana and Amy and their dolls and
spend quality time with her daughters and her friends. She was also very involved in their
church and served as Children’s Director for a while when the girls were older. Meredith and
Marvin moved to Camas, WA in 1993 for work and lived there for over 26 years in her dream
home. She taught at a nearby elementary school for a short time and again served as
Children’s Director at their new church. When she retired she kept both an immaculate home
and worked in her beautiful garden, loved taking walks around her neighborhood and other
scenic areas nearby and spent time with her wonderful friends. Over the years she delighted in
doing kind things for others such as hosting extended family, friends and a number of
missionaries serving in various parts of the world, volunteered at church sales to raise money
for missions, and brought meals or baked goods to those in need. She showed her love for
Christ through her thoughtfulness and creativity and made an impact on many. Meredith also
enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren whenever possible.
Meredith and Marvin were able to travel both in the U.S. and to Africa, where their daughter,
Amy and her family live, London, Italy, Amsterdam, and Hawaii.
Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin and her sister, Janet Miller (Youngren.)
Meredith is survived by her daughters Shana Leigh-Kendall (James Leigh-Kendall) and Amy
Wekesa (Amos Wekesa), grandchildren Samantha Leigh-Kendall, Kylan, Aliyah and Zion
