

Racine is survived by her children Darlean, Albert and Ophelia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Johnson, son Rodney Clinton Johnson, parents Ophelia Gilbert and Frank Dowell; her aunt Odessa Gilbert; her grandfather George Gilbert; and her adoptive parents Talilcious and Jesse Hunter. A host of relatives and friends.
Racine was born on July 12, 1938, in La Grange, Georgia, to Ophelia Gilbert and Frank Dowell. She was raised by her mother, aunt, and grandfather until her mother’s passing when Racine was six years old. She was then lovingly adopted by her aunt and uncle, Talilcious and Jesse Hunter, becoming the eighth child in the Hunter family in Detroit, Michigan.
Racine married her childhood neighbor and love Clinton Johnson they married and lived a devoted life together for 65 years. A devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Sacramento, she was active in church ministry throughout her life, serving as she served as a choir member, evangelist and Sunday school teacher.
Beyond her spiritual contributions, Racine was a founding member of the Ladies of Charity in Sacramento and participated in numerous organizations including the National Organization of Colored Women, the Women’s Missionary Union, Women’s Matrons, and the Ruth Circle.
While raising her family, Racine pursued an education in the medical field, becoming a nursing assistant and later working toward an LVN license. She retired from UCD Medical Center and continued to serve the her community in various capacities.
Racine’s children remember her as a loving and committed mother who gave her time selflessly—volunteering with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Sacramento County Probation, supporting fundraisers, designing costumes for school and church plays, and a proud supporter of the Campus Life missionary outreach.
She was known for her grace, warmth, and willingness to support those around her. She lived her life as an example of Christian love. Her spiritual light was bright.
Her funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church at 11;00am. Pastor Anthony Sadler will officiate.
