

Raymond “Larry” Tarrant, Sacramento Police Department (Ret.), 75, of Sacramento passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. He was born September 21, 1941 in Douglas, Georgia to William Henry Tarrant and Eunice Cornelia Baker Tarrant. Larry moved to Sacramento in 1962 after 4 years in the United States Army where he served as an MP. He joined the Sacramento Police Department in 1963 and faithfully served the City of Sacramento as a motorcycle police officer for the following 24 years. He was also a member of the first Police motorcycle honor guard “The Clean 13”. He continued his work serving his community while working as a campus security officer at William Daylor High School in Elk Grove Unified School District. Throughout his career he touched many lives with his southern charm, humor, strength and wit. Larry loved camping, hunting, fishing, softball, football, reading, movies and good humor. He was a history buff, excellent cook, music enthusiast and participated in several Pig Bowls and Police softball leagues. Larry was loved by many and his legacy will live on. He was married to Judith June Tarrant from 1962-2012. He is survived by his three daughters BeckyAnne (Louis) Erickson of Sacramento, Peggy Jo (David) Tarrant-Karl of Denver CO, and Molly (George) Johnson of Sacramento. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren Tyler, Jessica, Noah & Zachary Erickson, Johnathan & Kathryn Karl, Meredith, Kendall and Hayden Ryno and Athena and EJ Johnson. Larry’s parents, one sibling, and one daughter, Heidi Lynn Tarrant, preceded him in death. All are welcome to celebrate Larry’s life in his laid back southern style. Wear your blue jeans and come enjoy some of his favorite foods on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 12-3pm, at the home of Molly Lee and George E. Johnson II.
