

Reece Ronald Griffith born 9/3/1931 in Arcata, CA to William and Alzena Griffith. He was the youngest of eight siblings and his mother died shortly after birth. In all he had 14 siblings. In 1939 he left Rio Dell, CA to attend the California School for the Blind in Berkeley, CA. He then went to Oakland Tech where he was a member of the chess team and wrestling. After graduating Reece was employed as a cook at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, CA where he met and married the milkshake girl, Marjorie Pynch. Shortly after the birth of daughter Yvonne, they moved to Santa Clara, CA and opened a restaurant with his mother-in-law Elizabeth Pynch. In 1963 the family moved to Sacramento, CA to become involved in the Blind Enterprise Program. They had many food service locations including Dept. of Mental Hygiene, Dept. of Agriculture, Sacramento County Admin, OBB and PERS snack shops. Reece had over 50 years with BEP in Northern California training for 14 years and continued to stay involved in BEP committees. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends and his favorite charities included Shriners Hospital and Rio Dell City Library.
Reece was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Griffith and grandson Steven Schwartz. He is survived by sons Raymond and Mark Griffith; daughters Yvonne Schwartz, Joan Daniels and Margie Hatfield; grandchildren Gary Daniels, Donna Fitzgerald, Kevin Schwartz, Tracy Schwartz, Jessica Hatfield, Anthony Schimeke, Pete Wilson and Bethany Hatfield; great grandchildren Kati Daniels, Kinley Daniels, Brody Fitzgerald, Reece Fitzgerald and Steven Schwartz.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA. (916) 451-7284.
